As much as I love the beach in the summer, fall and winter brings a sort of inviting emptiness to the beach that I can’t seem to get enough of. I’m pretty sure the few surfers and runners that are out there, share the same sentiment if not dedication.

Today’s length was from jetty to jetty with a slight stretch and rest in between. The fog was back and the temp was chilly but the cold sand under my bare feet felt good. My calves were still a little sore from Sunday’s run but they soon warmed up. Of course as I sit here typing, I can feel a bit of soreness creeping back up. I kept an easy pace for most of the run and then sprinted the last .3 miles from the lifeguard station to the pier.

Swell action kept me moving

Started the week off with a board session. Some slight swell action out this morning making for some bigger sets. It was sunny when I got in but then the fog rolled in again making for an eerie experience out in the water. The bigger sets made paddling out and back out again and again more strenuous. Definitely worked the legs good and the arms, not to mention I’d be out of breath once I got back out so I guess the lungs got a bit of a workout too. Felt gooood though…

VB run

Hit the beach for a run on a foggy morning. Ran barefoot in the soft sand. Kept a decent pace and slowly picked it up towards the end. Calves are a bit sore but that’s to be expected.

Waited 3 days after the recent rains to get back into the water. Slipped on the wetsuit, grabbed the fins, board and headed to the beach. The water still had a poopy brown color to it and some less than pleasant “stuff” floating on the surface in some spots. The water seemed more clear closer to the pier so that’s where I posted up. Once I got over the gross factor I had a pretty good session. Felt pretty strong paddling and kicking. Towards the 2 hour mark I felt the start of a leg cramp come about so I called it a day.

Decided to take an easy ride to the pier. Tide was low, sand berms were in full effect with kids climbing the dunes and couples watching the approaching sunset. Not really a workout but got me moving a bit. And that’s better than not…

Felt the need to get out and do something after slaving in the kitchen and partaking in such a huge meal. It was great to get out in the early evening. There were just a hint of a few clouds as the sun went down and the air temp was mild.
